The 16th Bioinformatics Research and Education Workshop

BREW is a workshop for PhD students in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, that aims to give an introduction to scientific conferences, including submission, peer review and presentation of scientific papers. All participants must submit a paper and take part in reviewing papers from other participants in order to attend the workshop. After the review deadline, students have a chance to make alterations to their paper and deliver a final version. All participants will present their paper at the conference-style meeting.

Participation and Important Dates

Registration by 18.2.2018.

For the registration you need a 100-200 word abstract of the paper you intend to write. See paper guidelines for an idea of what kind of papers we are looking for. Submission of your abstract can be done through EasyChair (click here). There is not need to create a separate pdf with your abstract, you can simply type or copy-paste your abstract into the submission form.

First paper version submission by 11.3.2018.

Please submit a 3-5 page PDF of your paper for reviewing. Submission of your paper is again done through EasyChair (click here). Please have a look at the paper guidelines again before submitting.

Reviews submission by ***25.3.2018***

Review submission has closed.

After the paper submission, everyone will receive the papers of two other participants. For each, you will have to write a review. Some guidelines on writing reviews are given here

Final paper version submission by 29.4.2018

After receiving the reviews from the other participants, you may make alteration to your paper.

Workshop in Bielefeld on 7-8.5.2018

At the workshop, everyone will give a short presentation of their paper. Each participant will have 20 minutes to present his/ her paper followed by 10 minutes to answer questions. Since the large diversity of participants' topics, the presentation is expected to have a broad introduction about research field.

BREW is open for students and supervisors from the PhD programs in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology in participating universities.

The workshop is free of charge and local expenses will be covered.
